Granada

First and Foremost, what the heck is happening in this fountain we found?

Secondly, the Kebab King is INDEED King. We had lunch there just about everyday, and it was fantastic. We also tried out a very friendly new tapas bar, and were treated very well by the owners. They served up some complimentary shots of a very good Spanish mint liqueur, which was chilled in the freezer and served in frozen shot glasses. Forgot the name, but it started with an A, and is apprarently used a lot like Jagermeister (for colds). Good stuff for sure!

We´ve been in Granada for a little over 4 days now, and are getting ready for our night train ride over to Barcelona - Home of pickpockets and incredible sights! The main reason we scheduled a stop in Granada was to see the Alhambra, which is a semi-mythical moorish palace complex overlooking the city. It was built over 850 years ago and contains intricate marble inscriptions, fountain- and arch-work of incredible beauty.

It can really only accurately be described with a picture. (See below)

Seriously though, taking a great picture in the Alhambra is as easy as falling over, so here´s a few we snapped during our 5 hour daytime visit. (Please ignore the lumpy pinkish things wandering around, there are 8000 visitors daily)

We didn´t just come to Granada to view the Alhambra by day however! We came to visit it at night as well. Pictures were extremely hard to take because of the whole ´no tripod´thing, but Brad Mcguyered some chairs together took a few shots anyways.

There is a very active/talented grafitti culture here, and they provided some spectacular art as we wandered around the old somewhat dilapadated 50´s mansions which seem to consitute the majority of buildings in our area (including our hostel - which was very nice). Cats also seemed to be everywhere, even in the Alhambra and our Hostal Parking lot.

We´re very excited about getting to Barcelona, and just how quickly after that we´ll be in outrageous italy.

You guys are sure seeing the sone fo the amazing spots in the world. Your pictures of the Alhambra are outstanding and in particular the night shot. I sure looks like the weather has been treating you will.

Tip for Barcalona, keep your valuables in money belts, front pockets, backpacks if you use them to the front. Look up like you know where you are going and be confident and you will look like you belong and less like a tourist.

Don't be intimidated, continue to explore and enjoy. We look forward to hearing more from you. Tahnks for the postcard.

Take care and have more fun!

Hi Brad and Anette

I've been really enjoying your comments and photos and have decided that you guys should write a travel guide to Europe. It would be an entertaining and enjoyable read.

I have just (yes, just) discovered that all of your pictures can be enlarged...sheesh...and am still not sure what is going on in that first picture (which I would not let Cooper look at.) All I can say is the poor animal doesn't look very happy.

The Alhambra looks fascinating. Forced me to look for more info on the "mythical" history of the place.

Colin just discovered you were doing this and has been bugging me every three minutes to forward your blog site to him. If you receive any anonymous, slightly off-center comments, it's probably him. Then again, I'd hate for him to get blamed for everything your slightly off-center friends might write (hahaha!)

Looking forward to the next installment.

early ps...your mom was right about splurging on the good seats at the bull fight. I thought close to the action was better (mental head shake) and was splattered by, not blood and gore, but bull snot, copious amounts of bull snot. (Always listen to your Mother!)

luv klk

Keep those awesome photos coming buddy. Love the shocked Spaniard look. And tell me you tried some of that sweet sweet Alhambra Beer. Stuff's like moonshine!

How are the Spanish language lessons coming? Picking up any of the lingo? I know a phrase that can help you out of any tight situation, give it a whirl: yo soy Americano.

Guys,
Seems like common sense, but always have your bag on you - whether its wrapped around your leg at dinner or on your arm. Keep your hands on your stuff at all time - we lost passports, camera, all photos etc, but falling into "careless canadian" ways. Wouldn't want the same thing to happen to you - but if it does, its surprisingly easy to get replacement passports in Barcelona (I think they issue them lots ;))
