Tomar
We arrived in Tomar early yesterday morning, and were glad to have made it at all. Our bus left very early in the morning from Nazare, and we needed to check out before anyone was manning the hotel lobby. So, we wrote a note in Portuguese and left our keys in the room. We shut the auto-locking door, left the note and tried to leave the courtyard.
A courtyard with a locked gate, which you need your key from inside the autolocked room to exit. I started to look around for another ´kinley` shortcut (aka leaping down to the street over the wall, but couldn´t find any). Fortunately, someone had left their keys in their hotel door, which we quietly removed, and used - placing them in front of their door afterwards.

Tomar is a foothills type of town, and there is a spectacular Knights Templar Castle/Church overlooking the whole thing. We toured that yesterday, which was pretty jaw-dropping. After a scorching afternoon (classified as: holy shit hot) , we had a had a nice birthday dinner at a restaurant over looking a small river. Thanks for all the b-day messages, I really appreciated them - we´re thinking about you all.
Tommorow we leave for Salamanca and end the Portugal portion of the trip. There is a lot to see here, and everywhere we visited felt very different from the previous town or city. It has also been quite cheap, with us regularly coming in at around half of our daily possible budget.

Geez...just wrote a nice long note, and promptly lost the bugger. Technology ain't my thing.
The abbreviated version...
Who wrote the note in Portuguese? What do you THINK it said? What did it PROBABLY say? What kind of naive (read stoned/drunk) individual leaves their room key in their door at night? (I swear Brad, you have horseshoes...)
I take it the photo is of the Knights Templar Castle you toured. What century are we talking here? Pretty amazing that the structure is still so sound after all these centuries.
Glad that you had a nice birthday dinner, but am a bit disappointed that you're under budget!!! (For spending tips, just email - hahaha!) It's really a very good thing, as I expect you'll find Italy a bit pricey.
So, on to Spain! Looking forward to reading your next update. Just want you to know that we appreciate the effort you guys are putting into this. I know it takes time from your travels, but we do appreciate being able to follow you around, albeit vicariously.
Be well and take care of each other.
Love CKC and Oreo (who pooped in his Kennel this morning - aughhhh!)
Hi Brad and Anette,
Greetings from flood torn CAlgary. You wouldn't believe it - I can see the Bow River while sitting at the kitchen table! Greengate Garden CEntre is closed and pots of flowers are floating in the parking lot! It's unbelievable - but fortunately the sun is shining today so hopefully things will begin to dry out.
Dad came home from Idaho last night in time for dinner at Anette and Dwayne's - a few neighbors were there so we had a great time. All were interested in hearing about your escapades!
Ditto with what Auntie K said - you are doing a wonderful job keeping us up to date on your travels - and the pictures of the beach were --- shall I say --- most interesting? Does the warmth allow for more limber positions???!?!?!
Take care you two ---
Love Mom
What's this, pictures of Brad? Scantily -clad, highly-suggestive beachfront exercise photos only.
